11 May 2016 - Eco Team Update
The Eco Committee is the Nature Council of the school. Every few weeks the leaders go through all the paper bins of the school and mark down on a chart how many pieces of paper have been used on both sides out of ten. The Eco committee have made many decisions. Recently, some new bins have arrived at the school from Litter Less. We are trying to make sure pupils recycle plastic and food waste whilst in the playground.
During the rest of the year the Eco leaders with the help of school council will be trying to tidy up the Nature area. We have received £100 from Keep Wales Tidy to help buy wild flowers to help the Nature area be attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies. We also have one of the Eco leaders on playground duty where they help other children and tell them where to put their litter. One of the reasons school council leaders started the Eco committee was because we are aiming to get the green eco flag from Keep Wales Tidy -the one that other schools have- for our school.
The Eco leaders have said in assemblies,"This isn't something you should only do in school, this is something to do at home too." So that is something to remember. At the moment we are having a wooden shelter/canopy being built. It will be used for cover in the rain and sometimes as an outdoor classroom. We have received £5000 from the Big Lottery Fund to help contruct this.
